The Chair

The Chair represents the Authority and runs the two governing bodies by preparing the work of the General and the Executive Board and chairing their meetings.

On 21 January 2025, the Council of the European Union appointed Bruna Szego to the position of Chair.

The Chair joined AMLA on 17 February 2025.

 

The Executive Board

The Executive Board will be composed of the Chair and five full-time members, including the Vice-Chair.

It will take all decisions towards individual obliged entities or individual supervisory authorities where relevant. 

The Executive Board will also take decisions regarding the draft budget and other matters relating to operations and the functioning of AMLA. 

The recruitment process is currently ongoing according to Article 63 of AMLA’s Founding Regulation (EU) 2024/1620. The appointment of the 5 Executive Board Members by the Council is expected in April 2025.

 

The General Board

The General Board meets in two alternative compositions: a supervisory composition with the heads of supervisory authorities responsible for AML/CFT supervision from all EU Member States, and an FIU composition with the heads of the Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs) from all EU Member States as well.

The General Board adopts acts of general application in the appropriate composition, depending on the subject matter.

In addition to that:

  1. starting from 2028, the General Board in its supervisory composition may provide opinions on any draft decision prepared by the Executive Board in relation to selected obliged entities;  
  2. the General Board in its FIU composition adopts all the decisions necessary for performing the relevant support and coordination tasks of AMLA.

The General Board members were appointed at the end of 2024 by their respective Member State or Institution. The first General Board meeting took place on 11 March 2025.

The Executive Director

The Executive Director will be responsible for the day-to-day management of AMLA, the preparation and implementation of the annual work programme, as well as the budget establishment and implementation.

The recruitment process is currently ongoing according to Article 58 of the AMLA's founding regulation (EU) 2024/1620. The appointment of the Executive director by the AMLA Executive Board is expected around June 2025.
